Message For those who put very few miles on their Z which often screws with the intervals for regular service, I wanted to share my experience with the timing belt.

My Z got its last belt done in 1997 at 57k. It is now 11 years later and the car has 92k. Most on here recommended having it changed just out of time and wear so I shopped and found a Nissan mechanic to do it part-time at another garage (Dealer wanted between $1400-$1600 to do belt and pump).

When he showed me the belt he took off with 11 years of wear and about 25k miles, it looked brand new. A little shiny on the bottom but not dry or cracked or anything. He said it could have done another 10 years easy at this rate.

My experience and advice to save money- If you don't drive much and it gets up in years, inspect it first and don't jump to scheduled service and waste thousands on needless work.

If anyone has any experience similar or opposite, I'd love to hear cause I feel like a dolt for panicking like I was going to lose the engine every time i drove it with the old belt to the point I spent hundreds for the new one.
